Regional Hospitalist Program Director – San Antonio

We are presently building a first-rate hospitalist team.  We’ve already recruited some incredibly talented Internists and more are yet to come.

We’re currently interviewing for a Regional Hospitalist Program Director.  As Program Director, your responsibilities include formulating and implementing strategic plans quality initiatives to ensure attainment of operating goals and objectives.

You’ll provide executive leadership to lead hospitalist physicians and other providers.  You will oversee activities related to quality improvement and customer satisfaction.  As the Director, you’ll drive the growth and expansion of our hospitalist program (hospitalists and nocturnists).  And you’ll serve as the liaison between the organization, payers, referring physicians and the San Antonio community.

Regional Hospitalist Program Director’s Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organizational Leadership
  • Participate in Leadership Committees that may include: Physician Leadership Council, Joint Operating Committee, Peer Review, Finance, Utilization Management, and Customer Service Measures and Quality/Outcomes.
  • Participate in developing short term and long term strategic plan in conjunction with Market leadership.
  • Collaborates on strategic goals with Regional Hospital CMOs, Emergency Departments, PCPs and specialists.
  • Drive hospitalist program growth and develop short and long-range plans to support strategic goals.
  • Recruiting Leadership
  • Participate in the interview, selection and orientation process of new physicians.
  • Assist with the initial development and maintenance of a 5 year recruiting plan.
  • Oversee and participate in a New Physician Recruit Training and Mentoring program.
  • Identify and assist with recruiting in-market providers.
  • Quality / Outcomes Leadership
  • Assist with EMR implementation and training.
  • Provide guidance to the Regional VP of Physician Services on clinical issues.
  • Conduct monthly chart reviews to ensure compliance with established protocols.
  • Mediate professional disputes and interdepartmental problems.
  • Participate in and evaluate Quality Initiatives.
  • Review Avega data to identify best practices and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor and manage hospitalist program for clinical quality, timeliness of service, physician satisfaction, and patient satisfaction.
  • Provide effective medical leadership that will ensure safe and efficient delivery of quality care to our patients as well as the oversight of performance improvement initiatives.
  • Operational Leadership
  • Identify and assist with developing all programmatic components of the hospitalist service to include: clinical protocols and guidelines, staff training and education, referral development, and community relations.
  • Evaluate opportunities developed in cooperation with management to improve provider productivity and manage practice expenses.
  • Complete lead provider annual evaluations with each program and ensure appropriate staff certifications.
  • Educate new physicians on customer service, patient flow, and process
  • Provide executive leadership to physicians and direct service providers with respect to services and medical care, working hours, leave time, their supervision of personnel and interaction with patients.
  • Monitors and maintains appropriate staffing levels.
  • Provide leadership to referring physician relations program and develop strategies to improve satisfaction.
  • Managed Care Leadership
  • Monitor and measure Pay for Performance Criteria and Reporting
  • Participate in hospitalist contract negotiations with Physician Services Managed Care Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of backgrounds and training.
  2. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time.
  3. Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
  4. Ability to communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing in working out solutions to problems or questions relating to work.
  5. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
  6. Ability to establish rapport and gain the confidence of others (referring physicians, nurses, patients and associates).
  7. Ability to function as a health care delivery team member.
  8. Ability to assess quality patient care.
  9. Ability to maintain and oversee the maintenance regulatory compliant patient medical records.
  10. Skills in providing diagnostic, preventive, and/or therapeutic services to patients.
  11. Knowledge of the cultural and social backgrounds of the community being served.

REGIONAL HOSPITALIST PROGRAM DIRECTOR QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Completion of an accredited medical school, internship, and completion of the certification examination by the medical board of examiners.
    Additional education and coursework in management and business would enhance candidacy. An MBA or equivalent business experience preferred.
  2. At least 10 years of clinical practice, with a reputation as an excellent physician.
  3. Permanent current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Texas.
  4. Board certified in internal medicine.
  5. Current medication dispensing license (DEA).
  6. Demonstrable leadership role and achievement in a complex healthcare delivery system.
  7. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  8. Experience in fiscal accountability and budgeting.
  9. Knowledge and experience of quality infrastructure is needed, including how to develop and implement decision tools, clinical protocols and guidelines, care management programs, and outcome measurement assessments.
  10. Experience and training must have been progressive and responsible, demonstrating good knowledge of current principles, practices, methods, and techniques in the field of medicine.
  11. Medical experience in a hospital setting.
  12. Possess current and valid state Driver’s License and maintain a valid Driver License during employment.
